iNaturalist/Seek

The Season’s are changing! In December of each year the northern hemisphere has its winter solstice (shortest day of the year). How are the species you see this month different from the species you see in June?

This is the same challenge all winter, seek has not updated to a new challenge.

This month's
STEM Career Highlight:

Restoration Ecologist

Ecology is a broad field that includes studying animals, plants, or the entire environment. A Restorative Ecologist is one who works towards bringing an ecosystem back to its natural state after significant distrubance has occurred. "Restoration ecology is the scientific study of repairing disturbed ecosystems through human intervention."

-Nature.org

The If/Then Exhibit refers to Kellyn Lacour-Conant as someone who, "...supports innovative wetland restoration projects and environmental justice movements. Their research has focused on a native wetland shrub called Lycium carolinianum (more commonly called wolfberry, salt matrimony vine, or fraise), Indigenous stewardship methods, and community resilience."

Amazing work Kellyn!
